This Privacy Policy explains how the JRNL app ("JRNL", "we", "us") handles your information. JRNL is a personal journaling app, built to be private by default — your journal entries live on your device, not on our servers.
When you create an account we collect your email address and an optional display name. Authentication is handled by Supabase (our authentication provider). Your password is stored by Supabase in hashed form; we never see it in plaintext.
Your journal entries, mood selections, goals, habit streaks, achievements, and app settings are stored locally on your device in an on-device database. We do not have access to this content and it is not transmitted to us — except in the specific case described in (d) below.
If you subscribe to JRNL Pro, the transaction is processed by the Apple App Store or Google Play. We use RevenueCat to manage subscription status and entitlements. We receive subscription state (active/expired) and anonymous purchase identifiers — we do not receive your full payment card details, which are handled solely by Apple or Google.
JRNL offers optional AI features — reflections (a Bible verse or quote responding to an entry) and goal suggestions. When you use these, the relevant text you wrote is sent over an encrypted connection to our server, which forwards it to our AI provider (Anthropic) to generate the response. This text is used only to generate your reflection or suggestions for that request; it is not used to train AI models, and it is not retained in a durable database by us after the response is returned.
The Verse of the Day and time-of-day prompts are computed locally or from a bundled dataset and do not send your content anywhere.
If you enable streak reminders, JRNL schedules a local notification on your device. This does not send any data to us.
JRNL does not include third-party advertising or cross-app tracking SDKs. Our hosting and auth providers may log standard technical request metadata (e.g. IP address, timestamps) for security and reliability, as is typical for any internet service.

We do not use your information for advertising, profiling, or sale to third parties.

Account deletion: You can request deletion of your account and associated account data by emailing support@myjrnlapp.com. We will delete your account information within a reasonable period. (Your local journal data is on your device; deleting the app removes it.)
Depending on where you live (e.g. under GDPR or the CCPA/CPRA), you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or port your personal information, and to object to or restrict certain processing. Because your journal content lives on your device, you already directly control it. For account information held by our providers, contact support@myjrnlapp.com and we will respond as required by applicable law. We do not sell or "share" personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising.
JRNL is not directed to children under 13 (or the minimum age required in your jurisdiction), and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has provided us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.
We use encrypted connections (HTTPS/TLS) for all network requests, store your session credentials in the device's secure storage (iOS Keychain / Android Keystore), and rely on reputable providers for auth and payments. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, but we take reasonable measures to protect your information.
Your information may be processed in countries other than your own (including the United States), where our service providers operate. Where required, we rely on appropriate safeguards for such transfers.
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will update the "Last updated" date above and, for material changes, provide notice in the app or by other reasonable means.
