These Terms of Use ("Terms") are a legal agreement between you and the developer of the JRNL app ("we", "us"), governing your use of the JRNL mobile application and related services (the "App"). By downloading, accessing, or using the App, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the App.
1. The App
JRNL is a personal journaling app offering daily entries, moods, a journaling streak, AI-generated reflections (a Bible verse or quote) and goal suggestions, and a paid JRNL Pro subscription that unlocks additional features (goals, habit streaks, up to 3 entries per day, and reminders).
2. Eligibility & accounts
- You must be at least 13 years old (or the minimum age in your jurisdiction) to use the App.
- You are responsible for the accuracy of your account information and for keeping your login credentials secure. You are responsible for all activity under your account.
- We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these Terms.
3. Your content
- You own your journal content. Entries, moods, goals, and other content you create are yours.
- Your content is stored locally on your device. When you use AI features, the relevant entry text is sent to our servers solely to generate your requested reflection or suggestions, as described in our Privacy Policy.
- You are solely responsible for your content and for keeping your own backups. Because journal data is stored on your device, uninstalling the App or losing your device may permanently delete your content. We are not responsible for lost content.
4. AI-generated content
- AI reflections and goal suggestions are generated automatically and provided for personal, informational, and inspirational purposes only.
- Scripture references are resolved from public-domain Bible translations (World English Bible / King James Version). AI output may occasionally be inaccurate or unexpected; it is not professional, medical, mental-health, legal, financial, or religious advice. Use your own judgment and consult a qualified professional where appropriate.
5. JRNL Pro subscriptions
- JRNL Pro is offered as an auto-renewing subscription (monthly and/or annual) sold through the Apple App Store or Google Play.
- Price and billing. The price and billing period are shown in the App at the point of purchase. Payment is charged to your App Store / Google Play account at confirmation of purchase.
- Auto-renewal. Your subscription automatically renews at the then-current price unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. Your account is charged for renewal within 24 hours prior to the end of the current period.
- Managing & canceling. You can manage or cancel your subscription in your Apple ID or Google Play account settings after purchase. Deleting the App does not cancel your subscription.
- Refunds. Purchases are handled by Apple or Google and are subject to their refund policies. We generally cannot issue refunds directly.
- Free features. Core journaling features remain available without a subscription, subject to the limits described in the App.
- Changes. We may change subscription features or pricing prospectively; changes will not affect a period you have already paid for.
6. Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- use the App for any unlawful purpose or in violation of these Terms;
- attempt to reverse engineer, decompile, or extract source code except as permitted by law;
- interfere with, disrupt, or overload the App or its servers (including the AI endpoints), or attempt to gain unauthorized access;
- use the App to generate or store content that is illegal or that infringes others' rights.
7. Intellectual property
The App, its design, code, branding ("JRNL"), and content we provide (excluding your own content and public-domain scripture) are owned by us or our licensors and protected by intellectual-property laws. We grant you a limited, personal, non-transferable, revocable license to use the App for its intended purpose.
8. Third-party services
The App relies on third-party services (Apple, Google, Supabase, Anthropic, RevenueCat, Railway). Your use of those services may be subject to their own terms. We are not responsible for third-party services.
9. Disclaimers
THE APP IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE" WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT. WE DO NOT WARRANT THAT THE APP WILL BE UNINTERRUPTED, ERROR-FREE, OR THAT CONTENT (INCLUDING AI OUTPUT) WILL BE ACCURATE.
10. Limitation of liability
TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, WE WILL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR FOR ANY LOSS OF DATA, PROFITS, OR GOODWILL, ARISING FROM YOUR USE OF THE APP. OUR TOTAL LIABILITY FOR ANY CLAIM RELATING TO THE APP WILL NOT EXCEED THE GREATER OF (A) THE AMOUNT YOU PAID US IN THE 12 MONTHS BEFORE THE CLAIM, OR (B) USD $50. SOME JURISDICTIONS DO NOT ALLOW CERTAIN LIMITATIONS, SO SOME OF THE ABOVE MAY NOT APPLY TO YOU.
11. Indemnification
You agree to indemnify and hold us harmless from claims arising out of your misuse of the App or your violation of these Terms or applicable law.
12. Termination
You may stop using the App at any time. We may suspend or terminate your access if you violate these Terms. Sections that by their nature should survive (e.g. ownership, disclaimers, limitation of liability) survive termination.
13. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. We will update the "Last updated" date and, for material changes, provide reasonable notice. Continued use after changes take effect constitutes acceptance.
14. Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of North Carolina, United States, without regard to conflict-of-laws rules, except where local consumer-protection law applies.
15. Apple-required terms (iOS)
If you obtained the App from the Apple App Store, you acknowledge:
- These Terms are between you and us only, not Apple. Apple is not responsible for the App or its content.
- Apple has no obligation to provide maintenance or support for the App.
- In the event of any failure of the App to conform to any applicable warranty, you may notify Apple, and Apple will refund the purchase price (if any); to the maximum extent permitted by law, Apple has no other warranty obligation.
- Apple is not responsible for addressing any claims relating to the App (including product-liability, legal/regulatory compliance, or consumer-protection claims).
- Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these Terms and may enforce them against you.
